The Rocky Mountaineer train, designed especially with you in mind, travels through the day and stops for the night and ensuring you don’t miss any of the phenomenal scenery and yet have a comfortable bed for the night.
This spectacular Rocky Mountaineer itinerary takes you through the Northern Rockies’ extreme and diverse landscapes into pristine and rarely seen wilderness from Vancouver to Whistler and on to Jasper with overnight stops in Whistler and Quesnel. This runs in both directions every few days from mid May until mid September.
As an alternative you can choose Journey Through the Clouds which travels between Vancouver and Jasper, or the First Passage to the West which travels between Vancouver and Banff or Calgary.
There are a number of different itineraries with the Rocky Mountaineer and all can be added to a tailor-made holiday to suit you. This was our 3rd Canadian holiday with Frontier Canada – we always come back to them as we know we will get a good quality holiday with no nasty surprises. Our latest holiday was arranged by Joanne, who provided an excellent service. She was able to advise us on which of their tours was the best fit for the sort of holiday we were looking for and then help us to tailor it to our exact requirements, changing flight days, removing bits from the suggested itinerary and adding others, arranging pre-booked tours and anticipating potential pitfalls (for instance when the ferry timetable changed, meaning we had to add in a night at Saint John as it was too long a drive to the next location). She really knew the area – even down to where we would get the best breakfasts by pre-booking at our accommodation and where we were better off going into town.

Travel onboard the Rocky Mountaineer from North Vancouver to the mountain resort Whistler, renowned for outstanding skiing and year-round outdoor activities, its an amazing hub in the summer too. You will be transferred from downtown Vancouver and then the Rocky Mountaineer will take you on a breathtaking rail journey through the stunning scenery of the Sea to Sky Corridor. Highlights of the trip include spectacular views of Howe Sound and the Coast Mountains, Brandywine Falls, Mount Garibaldi and the impressive Cheakamus Canyon.
On arrival at the Whistler train station, you will be transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at your leisure. Breakfast will be included on the train.

Enjoy breathtaking and varied scenery, from the river canyons and lush farmland of the Pemberton Valley to the desert-like conditions of the Fraser Canyon to rolling hills and vast ranchlands of the Cariboo Plateau. Highlights include the shorelines of Anderson Lake and glacial-fed Seton Lake, sweeping views of the Fraser Canyon and the crossing of Deep Creek Bridge, one of the highest railway bridges in the world. The Rocky Mountaineer follows the banks of the Fraser River into Quesnel.

Your journey continues eastwards today to the beautiful Canadian Rockies and Jasper National Park. Follow the Fraser River north to the town of Prince George, then travel east through the forests of northern British Columbia, home to plentiful wildlife, including a large population of moose. View the steeply rising Rocky Mountains and to the south the Cariboo Mountains. Continue climbing past Mount Robson, at 3,954 metres (12,972 feet) the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, and through the Yellowhead Pass into Alberta. You will continue on for an evening arrival into Jasper.

Travel to Banff via the beautiful and scenic highway, the Icefields Parkway. A stop will be made at Athabasca Falls before arriving at the Columbia Icefield. Here you will ride on an Ice Explorer to the middle of the Athabasca Glacier. Your driver/guide will explain how glaciers are formed and point out some interesting geological features. Time will be available for lunch included at the Glacier Discovery Centre. Afterwards, a brief stop will be made at Bow Lake before arriving in Banff this afternoon.
