Shortly after starting work for Frontier Travel I was lucky enough to head out to Canada on my first visit to this lovely country. I immediately realised why we specialised in holidays to Canada. It’s simply stunning! From its scenery and wildlife to the people you meet who are so friendly and relaxed.

Over twenty five years later I have been lucky enough to visit a lot of the places and hotels we feature on this website and many more.  Some of my highlights were flying into the beautiful Sonora Resort off Vancouver Island by floatplane, experiencing a night at the Ice Hotel in Quebec and every time I drive the Icefields Parkway in Alberta between Jasper and Lake Louise.

Recently I drove across British Columbia into Alberta to see most of the ski resorts we feature, a lot of which are also great for a few nights in the summer for alpine hiking, golf, zip trekking, valley cycling and mountain biking.

I need to experience more that Atlantic Canada has to offer, so that will be my next trip out as soon as possible.

Having had a love of travel as long as I can remember, it was natural that I went into the travel business as a secretary over 50 years ago. I soon progressed to being a travel agent which nearly stopped when almost my first call was for a ticket to Lubumbashi – not only had I never heard of Lubumbashi, but I didn’t even known which continent it was on. Those were the days prior to computers and everything had to be looked up in enormous manuals and booked over the telephone.

However, I learnt quickly and it was not long before my first trip to Canada which I instantly fell in love with.  I moved there in 1972 for two extraordinarily happy years I travelled all over the country working in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.  After my return to the UK, I had the opportunity to start selling holidays to Canada. I leapt at it and Frontier’s story started with an 8-page brochure featuring ski holidays to Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper and Whistler.  40 clients the first year, 80 the next and then suddenly we were up and away.  It was all very exciting.  These days I spend more time in the garden, taking my dog into the local hospice where he is a huge hit and, of course, travelling.

I am often asked what is my favourite bit of Canada.  It is a very hard question to answer as I have been to all 10 provinces and 2 of the 3 territories.  I usually answer the West Coast as I love the rugged coastline, the wildlife and the lifestyle of both the cities of Vancouver and Victoria. However, that would leave out the charms of Quebec, the seafood and people of Nova Scotia and the wild terrain of Newfoundland not to speak of the rugged beauty of the Rocky Mountains.

I joined Frontier Travel in 2014 having worked with in the travel industry for most of my career. My area of interest has always been the USA and Canada sparked by my first visit to the Canyonlands of Utah back in 1988.

Over the past few years, either on business or pleasure I have travelled to Yukon, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland along with parts of Quebec and Ontario and through the Rockies from Banff to Vancouver staying in some fabulous accommodation and enjoying some great experiences.

I can’t say I have a favourite place in Canada as it’s so diverse but I loved the Rocky Mountaineer train experience for the scenery, elegance and relaxed conviviality, and the icebergs in Newfoundland blew me away.

There is so much of Canada still on the wish list; explore more of Ontario, stay in one of the wilderness bear lodges and visit Alaska are just a few.

My Canadian Adventures.
Having extensively explored Canada, I am passionate about sharing my experiences and crafting bespoke adventures for clients. Each region offers a unique blend of landscapes, cultures, and activities, making it challenging to pick a favourite.

My initial journey to Canada, a fly-drive through the Rockies from Calgary to Vancouver, ignited my passion. The majestic Rocky Mountains captivated me, and the Icefields Parkway, with its ever-changing, breathtaking scenery, was truly unforgettable. Since then, I’ve ventured through Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec (including Montreal), and the North West Territories.

One of my most memorable trips was to Manitoba, the Polar Bear Capital of the World. This journey to Churchill exceeded all expectations, offering an unparalleled opportunity to observe polar bears in their natural habitat was simply incredible. More recently, the Northwest Territories provided an incredible experience. A stay at Blachford Lake Lodge, a true Canadian wilderness resort, involved arriving by bush plane and snowmobiling over ice-packed lakes. Witnessing spectacular displays of the Northern Lights there was a truly magical experience.

My latest adventure took me to Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast. This trip was filled with incredible landscapes and abundant wildlife sightings, including orcas, humpback whales, grizzly bears, and black bears with cubs. Stays at exceptional lodges like Knight Inlet, Farewell Harbour Lodge, and West Coast Wilderness Lodge were definite highlights.
My Canadian exploration is far from over. I’m eager to discover the Yukon, including a drive along the Dempster Highway to Inuvik. Further exploration of Ontario, with hiking and kayaking in Algonquin Provincial Park and its surrounding regions, and exploring Southern Quebec, also remains high on my list. The vastness of Canada means there’s always more to explore.

Jane Parker

I am fairly new to the travel industry. Having worked for over 20 years in Promotional Marketing for West End Theatre shows, developing and implementing campaigns for a wide variety of theatre clients, I was ready for a new career challenge. I joined the Frontier Travel team in 2023 to help with all the admin involved with booking the various holiday elements and preparing the travel documents for clients. Lots of attention to detail (which I love!) to ensure everyone’s holiday runs as smoothly as possible.

I have travelled to the USA a few times, including an RV trip from San Francisco to LA which was absolutely fantastic, and have been to Toronto in Canada. Having worked here for just a short time I am already building up a (long!) shortlist of places I’d like to visit and experiences I’d like to do in both the USA and Canada, having seen the fantastic itineraries that are put together for our clients!
