Shortly after starting work for Frontier Travel I was lucky enough to head out to Canada on my first visit to this lovely country. I immediately realised why we specialised in holidays to Canada. It’s simply stunning! From its scenery and wildlife to the people you meet who are so friendly and relaxed.
Over twenty years later I have been lucky enough to visit a lot of the places and hotels we feature on this website and many more. Some of my highlights were flying into the beautiful Sonora Resort off Vancouver Island by floatplane, experiencing a night at the Ice Hotel in Quebec and every time I drive the Icefields Parkway in Alberta between Jasper and Lake Louise.
I need to experience more that Atlantic Canada has to offer, so that will be my next trip out as soon as possible.
Canada Product Manager
I’ve been with Frontier for 24 years – and in the travel business all of my working life – and have been lucky enough to have travelled extensively throughout Canada, as it’s my job to find new places to visit, new hotels to stay in and to make sure that what we are offering you is the best it can be.
I have visited every Province, with the exception of Nunavut and the Northwest Territories and I have also been to Alaska, featured here because of how well it combines with the Yukon.
Choosing a favourite spot is very difficult, but I think it has to be Tofino on Vancouver Island in British Columbia; it’s a peaceful, beautiful place that just has to be visited.
Still on my own wish list would be to see the Spirit Bear and also to go to Churchill to see the Polar Bears in either winter or summer.
Founder of Frontier Travel
Having had a love of travel as long as I can remember, it was natural that I went into the travel business as a secretary over 50 years ago. I soon progressed to being a travel agent which nearly stopped when almost my first call was for a ticket to Lubumbashi – not only had I never heard of Lubumbashi, but I didn’t even known which continent it was on. Those were the days prior to computers and everything had to be looked up in enormous manuals and booked over the telephone.
However, I learnt quickly and it was not long before my first trip to Canada which I instantly fell in love with. I moved there in 1972 for two extraordinarily happy years I travelled all over the country working in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. After my return to the UK, I had the opportunity to start selling holidays to Canada. I leapt at it and Frontier’s story started with an 8-page brochure featuring ski holidays to Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper and Whistler. 40 clients the first year, 80 the next and then suddenly we were up and away. It was all very exciting. These days I spend more time in the garden, taking my dog into the local hospice where he is a huge hit and, of course, travelling.
I am often asked what is my favourite bit of Canada. It is a very hard question to answer as I have been to all 10 provinces and 2 of the 3 territories. I usually answer the West Coast as I love the rugged coastline, the wildlife and the lifestyle of both the cities of Vancouver and Victoria. However, that would leave out the charms of Quebec, the seafood and people of Nova Scotia and the wild terrain of Newfoundland not to speak of the rugged beauty of the Rocky Mountains.

I joined Frontier Travel in 2014 having worked with in the travel industry for most of my career. My area of interest has always been the USA and Canada sparked by my first visit to the Canyonlands of Utah back in 1988.
Over the past few years, either on business or pleasure I have travelled to Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland along with parts of Quebec and Ontario and through the Rockies from Banff to Vancouver staying in some fabulous accommodation and enjoying some great experiences.
I can’t say I have a favourite place in Canada as it’s so diverse but I loved the Rocky Mountaineer train experience for the scenery, elegance and relaxed conviviality, and the icebergs in Newfoundland blew me away.
There is so much of Canada still on the wish list; explore more of Ontario, stay in one of the wilderness bear lodges and visit Alaska are just a few.

I’ve been with Frontier Travel for a number of years now arranging tailor-made holidays to both the USA and Canada.
I have a wide personal experience of motorhome holidays, fly-drives, rafting and Horse riding holidays in Canada.
I have visited Calgary, Alberta and driven through the Rockies on many occasions taking various routes to Vancouver, BC and Vancouver Island where I have relatives. An alternative recommended route for the more adventurous is to cross the border from Alberta to Montana and explore the nearby National Parks.
As a family we have visited Toronto a couple of times and taken an RV trip to explore Ontario. Highlights were a helicopter trip over the Falls.
Top of the list holidays has to be staying at the Three Bars Ranch in BC where you can enjoy an excellent all-inclusive family holiday with riding, float rafting, tennis, swimming and great scenery.
For non skiiers looking for an Alberta winter snow adventure I can highly recommend the dog sledding in Canmore, Maligne Canyon ice walk, snow shoeing and cross country skiing outside Banff.
Still on my wish list is to explore the Maritime Provinces or see Polar Bears in Churchill.
