Alaska Yukon Fly Drive Holiday
Embark on a 14-night adrenaline-packed fly-drive odyssey bursting with untamed wilds and frontier charm – starting from Anchorage’s downtown, you’ll collect your wheels and head to quirky Talkeetna for local bites before heading into the vast landscapes of Denali National Park, where moose, bears, wolves, caribou (and possibly clear skies revealing Mount Denali’s summit) await. Next up – Fairbanks, known as Alaska’s “Golden Heart,” offers gold-mining nostalgia and Santa surprises. From there, zigzag southeast to Tok, then conquer the legendary Top of the World Highway, crossing into Canada by ferry to reach the historic, gold-rush-steeped Dawson City. Continue via the scenic Klondike Highway to Whitehorse, head south over the border through Emerald Lake and Carcross to charming Skagway (home of the classic White Pass & Yukon Railway experience), then fly to Juneau for a breathtaking Glacier Bay National Park cruise. Finally, return to Anchorage for one last night before heading home – this trip blends jaw-dropping vistas, wild encounters, rich history, and seamless variety in ways few journeys can match.

Today you are free to enjoy Fairbanks, called the ‘Golden Heart of Alaska’ and is a town renowned for retaining it’s ‘frontier’ feel. A tour of Gold Dredge No. 8 will give you an authentic look at mining life and at El Dorado Gold Mine, if you find any gold you are allowed to keep it! Alternatively, take a Fairbanks highlights tour where not only can you learn about interior Alaska and how important the oil industry is but also visit Santa Claus at his home in the North Pole and buy Christmas decorations and Alaska souvenirs.

Today you will drive southeast on the Alaska/Canada highway to the border town of Tok. You will pass through the quaint towns of North Pole and Delta Junction. There are also views of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline and the Tetlin National Wildlife Refuge along the route. This scenic drive also follows the Tanana River, one of Alaska’s longest.

You will be driving the amazing Top of the World highway today (partly gravel road) which brings you through spectacular backcountry and gold mining areas. When the highway reaches its highest elevation, you will get incredible views over the countryside. Before you reach Dawson City, you cross the Yukon River by state ferry. On arrival in Dawson City, where you will spend the next 2 nights, you may feel you have gone back in time; this old Klondike city has a unique feel all of its own.
You will have a full day to explore the Klondike goldfields and enjoying the Gold Rush atmosphere of Dawson City. Visit Diamond Tooth Gertie’s casino, cruise down the Yukon River, or take a walking historical tour.

Today’s journey will take you south along the Klondike Highway, one of Alaska’s most spectacular with Emerald Lake, Carcross desert and the small community of Carcross. You will cross the Yukon River Suspension bridge, providing amazing scenic views from above. You will cross the Canada/US border (passport and ESTA required) and continue to Skagway, which is part of Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park.
