Yukon Wildlife Safari by Horseback Guided Riding Adventure into the Wilds of Yukon
The focus of this holiday is to find, observe and photograph northern wildlife, including grizzly bears, wolves, moose, Dall sheep, mountain goats and caribou, and really get to know and appreciate the many wild animals of the north. With your well-mannered and sturdy mountain raised horses you will ride over high mountain passes, between jagged peaks, along raging rivers, through virgin forests and across beautiful alpine tundra meadows.

1 night in WhitehorseClose
Today you will be collected from your hotel and taken on a short tour to show you the town of Whitehorse. Afterwards you will set off along the Alaska Highway for a 20 minute drive up Fish lake road to the base camp at Sky Wilderness Ranch. Settle into your cozy cabin or double room in the main Lodge. You will be shown around as you get a feel for the rich history of Fish Lake. You will be introduced to the horses and given instruction on how to care for and saddle them. Lunch in the main Lodge. Depending on the weather and time of the day you will saddle up the horses and head out for a short first ride. After taking care of the horses you will enjoy a hearty meal.
The next morning you will saddle up around 11 a. m. and head off for a 3 hour ride to Bonneville lakes for lunch to try some hills before heading back to Sky High Wilderness Ranch,
Two nights at Sky High Ranch.
Fish Lake to Coal Lake
Today the pack horses will be loaded up with all the camping gear and food and say good bye to civilization. The trail is going steady up and over mount McIntyre to the working trapper's cabin near Coal lake. This base camp is rich in history and is still used in the winter for camping and trapping.
Overnight in Trapper Cabin or set up your tent or sleep by the fire.
After a hearty breakfast the horses are brought up and prepared for the day - the pack animals can be left to graze for the da. You will head up to Coal lake then up to moose flats and weather permitting to the top of double mountain, where you will have lunch while observing the world far below. You will circle a high mountain lake usually seeing moose and caribou. Then ride the ledges overlooking Coal lake before heading back down to the cabin for another night.
Overnight at Trapper cabin
You will ride down Coal Lake. The wet lands at the south end of Coal Lake are a series of beaver ponds. You will skirt the edges of this and ride along Friday Creek surrounded by alpine tundra. It is edged by grass meadows with lots of wild flowers surrounded by alder and willow, wich will make a sweet smelling fire for cooking meals. Mountain sheep, moose, caribou, and bears are often seen in this area. You will then ride down the valley beside Ibex mountain to your wall tent camp
One night campingClose
Wake early and try to catch a glimpse of a Yukon summer sunrise, which in June is about the same time as the sunsets – so good luck! Again you will pack up the horses to make a long day's trip back to Sky High only stopping for lunch, this time going to the west of fish lake to complete the full circle. Again keep your cameras ready for unpredictable wild life sightings. Once you reach the Ranch unload the horses and brush them down one last time. Now is the time to say goodbye to your guide and your new horse friends. You are driven back to Whitehorse where you will enjoy your last night.
