Bluewater Adventures Southeast Alaska Cruise

7-10 day Itinerary - Petersburg, Juneau & Sitka. Join either the 'Snow Goose' or 'Island Odyssey' to discover the whales, bears and glaciers of southeast Alaska.

Highlights will be days watching humpback whales breach and feed in Frederick Sound, the amazing sight of bears feeding on salmon in a rushing river and a journey up a spectacular mountain fjord to find icebergs and a majestic tidewater glacier. 
These voyages are in the Tongass National Forest - the largest national forest in North America. Go ashore daily to find beautiful forest walks, tumbling waterfalls and hike up to alpine meadows and bogs. Kayak along the shore inches above colourful intertidal creatures. Learn from the onboard naturalist about the Alaskan ecology. With access to two of the famed US Forest Service bear viewing sites, guests will see both brown and black bears. The daily itinerary is flexible to take full advantage of group interests, weather patterns and wildlife sightings.

Day 1

The daily plans are flexible to accommodate the surprises that occur each trip, the requirements of tide and weather, and the interests of the group. With so many opportunities to see wildlife and scenery, it’s hard to predict what unique moment will be your favourite memory.

 

Trips depart from Petersburg, Sitka, Wrangell, AK and Prince Rupert, BC – depending on the departure you have chosen. You will meet late morning to board the yacht, where you will begin your adventure into wild Southeast Alaska.

Day 2-8

In Frederick Sound and Chatham Strait, you will see whales on a daily basis and expect to see some spectacular behavior. Admiralty Island National Monument has the highest concentration of brown bears and eagles in North America. There are some beautiful evening anchorages – so keep an eye out for bears along the shore! You will experience a spectacular tidewater glacier, icebergs and thousand foot waterfalls at either Tracy Arm / Endicott Arm or LeConte Bay. At Anan Creek you will have the privilege to access the famous US Forest Service bear viewing stand and see bears fishing for salmon. For keen photographers there is a viewing blind right at water level.
Each day there is time for kayaking or walks ashore, or perhaps a relaxing dip in a hotsprings. You will spot and identify fascinating wildlife, explore the shoreline for intertidal creatures, and keep a daily record of the various species of plants and animals observed.

Day 9

Trip Finish: – On the last morning you will arrive at your final destination in time to catch an afternoon flight south to Seattle or Vancouver. You will either fly home or continue your holiday.

Booking your holiday with us doesn't end when we send your confirmation out to you, either. For example if your flight that we have booked is delayed or cancelled due to ash cloud, strike, etc, it is down to us to re-arrange your travel. The Snowgoose is a 65' steel motor-vessel and was built in Alaska in 1973 as a private yacht. she sleeps 12 passengers in 6 private cabins (double occupancy), with 3 heads and two showers. The main deck features a spacious, airy salon, natural history library, galley and dining area. Large windows provide great viewing on all sides with easy access to the deck. The upper bridge deck provides a good vantage point for spotting wildlife and comfortable seating for passengers who wish to get involved with the navigation of the ship. Snow Goose is a US Coast Guard certified passenger vessel.

The Island Odyssey was originally built as a luxurious private yacht in 1984, she completed a major renovation in 2003 to update the cabins and all safety systems. She features 8 private cabins (double occupancy), 3 heads with hot showers and a comfortable salon with a natural history library. On deck, the large deckhouse provides a comfortable spot to watch for wildlife. The Island Odyssey is a 68' ketch.
